Weis Markets is giving away 4,000 bags of private label grocery items in its new store in
Giving away free groceries also provides an opportunity to expose customers to private label and creates a sense of immediacy, adds Wisner.
The company is also giving away $67 worth of private label coupons in the reusable bags. The entire campaign is valued at $220,000, according to the Weis Markets Web site.
Though the investment seems hefty, the promotion also “results in residual advertising,” states Wisner. The end result, then, is the building of the store’s reputation and customer base.
The groceries will be distributed to neighborhoods surrounding the new store prior to its grand opening June 26. The 63,400-square foot store will feature the Sunbury, Pa.-based company's latest layout, which includes energy saving technology, a café that serves alcohol, a fuel station and a pharmacy.
