Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Spartan Stores is expanding its private label ice cream line while Schenectady, NY-based Price Chopper grocery chain has launched its new Decadent Dessert offerings under the Central Market Classics line.

Spartan’s Indulgent Creation line includes flavors such as double vanilla, toasted butter pecan, mint chip and double dark chocolate.

“We saw an opportunity to expand our ice cream line and we took advantage of it,” Alan Hartline, executive vice president merchandising and marketing, tells PL Buyer. “We’ve seen growth in our private label ice cream section, it has been a selling category,” Hartline says.

Many consumes have converted to private label ice cream, not as a way to save money but because of the unique and various flavors the company offers combined with quality taste, Hartline explains.

The new Indulgent Creation flavors will be available year round through Spartan’s D&W Fresh Market, Family Fare, Felpausch and Glen’s Market stores as well as through nearly 400 independent stores in Michigan and Northern Indiana that sell Spartan-branded products.

Price Chopper’s Decadent Dessert line of specialty cakes include black forest, tiramisu, Belgium white truffle, lemon berry bliss, four layer German chocolate cake, coconut carrot, Tres Leches, for the love of peanut butter, raspberry royale and seventh heaven, a chocolate concoction.
