Helping to placate concerns regarding pet food contamination, Lowes Foods, Winston-Salem, N.C., recently began offering refrigerated dog food, in its Clemmons, N.C., store. The pet food is available under the store’s Homestyle Select brand.
Amazon.com has launched its Amazon Fresh pilot program, delivering fresh grocery items such as dairy products, meat, produce and personal care products to residents of nearby Mercer Island, Wash. If Amazon Fresh expands, the Seattle-based Internet retailer will compete with Albertsons and Safeway, which also offer online shopping and delivery services.
On the supplier side:
Minnesota-based Smyth Companies Inc. has purchased the printing division of Stoffel Seals Corp., Nyack, N.Y. The transaction adds a new dimension to Smyth Companies’ capabilities with equipment to assemble hang tags for bottles and other packages, as well as shelf promotions such as header cards.
Aurora Organic Dairy, a Boulder, Colo., provider of private label organic milk and butter, announces that organic milk production has begun at its Coldwater West organic dairy farm near Stratford, Texas. This is the first organic dairy farm in Sherman County, and Aurora Organic Dairy’s second dairy location in Texas.
