Food Lion Engages Shoppers with Contests
Contests are an easy way to create shopper engagement and Delhaize America’s Food Lion is no stranger to the idea. Currently, the retailer is running several contests, including a “You Name It!” contest to find new names for its store brand soda flavors.
“Our Food Lion brand sodas have BORING names and we're looking for your help to rename them,” the retailer writes on its Facebook page.
Five grand-prize winners will receive $500 and one-year of store brand soda. Ten additional winners will receive a $100 Food Lion gift card and a three-month supply of private brand soda.
Shoppers can enter their soda name suggestions until April 29th at www.foodlion.com/younameitentry. Voting will take place from May 7- 13.
Food Lion is looking for names for its My Essentials brand root beer, ginger ale, fruit punch, orange and grape sodas. While there is a form to submit, the Facebook page announcement had 702 comments (at last check) with suggestions for names. Much to their credit, Food Lion has commented on every comment, showing its commitment to its social media.
Meanwhile, in Winchester, Va., Food Lion and the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival are giving away a VIP Tailgate Party. The festival takes place April 25th-May 4th and one person who enters http://thebloom.com/contest/food-lion-vip-tailgate-party/ will win a reserved VIP Tailgate space for 25 people, including a tent, tables, chairs, beverages, and a Food Lion picnic luncheon.
On April 18th, Food Lion gave away two limited edition Lion t-shirts that won't be sold in stores for answering a trivia question on its Facebook page (“Food Lion's energy conservation efforts in 2013 reduced carbon emissions by how many pounds?”). The shirts feature the retailer’s Food Lion and the phrase “Best. Shirt. Ever. That’s just my two cents.”
