Exclusive: Promotions Down Again

Another week goes by, another week where retailers tracked by Chicago-based marketing research firm Market Track show they are running fewer private label promotions than a year ago, according to data provided exclusively for PLBuyer’s eReport.

Last week, 11 of the 15 retailers followed showed fewer private label promotions than the same period a year ago, with Rite-Aid (-48.9%), Walgreens (-41.4%) and Walmart (-32.8%) well below last year’s pace.

H-E-B was among the few with more promotions than a year ago, up 25.8 percent, with Publix (+22.1%) and Giant-Landover (+21.6%) also showing gains.

Market Track’s analysis reflects regional versioning and market specific differences in circulars. This is accomplished through an extensive collections process, including physically obtaining the ads from the various markets in which they are distributed. In instances where retailers send additional circulars to a limited number of markets, Market Track’s information reflects these nuances to give a view of what is happening nationally.
