Private Label Buyer

Ralcorp Buys Gelit For Frozen Ready Meals

June 18, 2012

St. Louis-based Ralcorp Holdings announced Monday that it completed the purchase of Gelit, a producer of private-brand, frozen ready meals in Italy. Terms were not disclosed but the Italian-based company and its 130 employees will operate as part of Ralcorp's American Italian Pasta Company division.

Gelit has annual sales of about $45 million, Ralcorp said in a news release, and manufactures and distributes a complete line of meals to retail and wholesale customers, primarily in Italy and the U.S. Offerings include pasta, sauce, varieties with meat or fish, and traditional crepe entrees.

"We are pleased to welcome the Gelit management team and employees to the Ralcorp family," said Kevin J. Hunt, Ralcorp president and CEO, in the release.  "We believe this combination further strengthens our position as a diversified provider of private-brand foods and adds numerous strategic benefits to our pasta platform."
