7-Eleven Opens First ‘Green' Store

March 1, 2010

7-Eleven Inc., Dallas, said it opened its first “green” store as defined by the U.S. Green Business Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards. Located in DeLand, Fla., the store boasts a high-efficiency HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) system, a considerable percentage of locally sourced construction materials, insulated walls, low-flow fixtures and more. The store also features an “earth-friendly look” with its sand-colored stucco exterior and brown and green accents.

To earn the third-party LEED certification, 7-Eleven said, new structures must gain credits to satisfy specific green building criteria in the areas of sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental design and design innovation.
