A belated Happy New Year to all of our readers; hopefully your holidays were joyous and you celebrated with lots of private label products.
By the time you read this, though, the holiday hoopla will be over and it will be time to start thinking about work again. We here at PLBuyer never stop thinking about working, specifically we never stop thinking about how we can help you do your jobs more efficiently  and more profitability.
And to that end, we have a big announcement - PLBuyer will be hosting its first-ever industry conference this June 5-7 at Chicago’s historic Hilton Hotel on Michigan Avenue.
Private Label: The Next Generation, will be a conference unlike any out there. You can get a taste of it in the ad for the conference running on page 13 but let me tease you a bit here too.
Big name speakers at four general sessions, more than 20 educational sessions tightly focused on product development, marketing and merchandizing of private label in new ways, ways that acknowledge that private label is no longer simply a lower cost alternative retailers have on their shelves, but rather a major way to attract, and retain, more shoppers who come to your stores specifically for your private labels (something our exclusive consumer research finds is happening more and more as you can read on page 6).
And, because we strive to do everything bigger and better than anyone else, the conference also will have a cutting-edge interactive element. Attendees will be voting and voicing their opinions about specific private label foods throughout the day and a half of sessions. There’s more to it than that, come to the meeting and find out what it’ll all be about.
We kick things off  June 5 with an evening gala.
A quick aside, my birthday is June 4. As a child, I was often taking final exams on my birthday rather than celebrating. I especially remember my Latin final during freshman year of high school on a day when New York City was being swamped by a Nor’easter that left me soaked. Not one of my favorite birthdays.
My birthday this year promises to be much more fun because it will be followed by this dynamic new PLBuyer event. Sign up as soon as possible to get our early-bird discount.
Speaking of events, congratulations to all of our Design Excellence Award winners. You can see the winning designs beginning on page 26.
