PL's Future Is Transparent, FMI Speaker Contends

Consumers want to know more about the products they buy and private label offerings will have to tell them, being transparent about sourcing from seed to store, predicted Matthias Queck, research director for the London-based retail consultant firm Planet Retail during the Private Brands Summit being held in Chicago Monday.


Already in Austria, for example, a consumer can scan the QR code of a product he or she plan to purchase and see its entire supply chain.


“Retailers are investing in production facilities that will allow them to produce private label at home and abroad, also allowing the retailer access to the entire supply chain, in turning allowing more transparency for the customer,” he says.
