“The addition of the retail private label non-dairy creamer business will allow E.D. Smith to continue building its growing presence in the Canadian market and expanding its relationships with Canada’s leading retailers,” said Harry Walsh, president of Bay Valley Foods, another TreeHouse subsidiary.
In other TreeHouse news, post-gazette.com (the Web site of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) said the company took a non-cash charge of $7.6 million connected to the impairment of the Nature’s Goodness baby food brand name “as the company focuses its private label opportunities in retail baby food.” The newspaper went on to report that TreeHouse picked up the Nature’s Goodness business(along with the company’s private label soup operation) a few years ago from Del Monte Foods, San Francisco, which, in turn, had acquired the business from H.J. Heinz, Pittsburgh.
