Dearborn Sausage Co., Macomb, Mich., a national supplier of fresh sausages, premium beef jerky, snack sausages, and hams, and THANASI Foods LLC, Boulder, Colo., a national supplier of branded snack foods, formed Macomb Smoked Meats LLC as a joint venture to purchase and manage the American Foods Company Inc. beef jerky and smoked sausage production facility in Macomb, Mich. Macomb Smoked Meats will employ approximately 50 people in metropolitan Detroit. The new company will launch and operate as a jointly-owned partnership.
The visual identity of Carrefour's private label products will be revamped with more prominence given to the Carrefour logo, according to a Planet Retail posting. Product names will be presented in several languages on the front of the packaging and the names of the thematic ranges will be simplified, e.g., "Carrefour Agir bio" will be replaced by "Carrefour bio.” The new packaging will be available in stores beginning in November. Also, following its launch in France, Belgium and Spain, the Carrefour Discount economy range will be launched in Italy next month. There, up to 300 SKUs will be offered by the end of the year.
Target Corp., Minneapolis, is partnering with celebrated designer Gaby Basora to create the next limited-edition collection for GO International, the company’s program for affordable fashion created by world-class designers. Basora will launch the exclusive Tucker for Target collection on Target.com/go and at most Target stores nationwide Sept. 12. The collection of women's apparel, including tops, bottoms, dresses, outerwear and knitwear, will be available through October 17.
Wegmans, Rochester, N.Y., introduces Wegmans Super Pasta, said “to look and taste like the comfort food nearly everyone loves,” but offering an entire serving of whole grains; extra protein and fiber; and calcium, vitamin D, and ALS omega 3-s. At $1.99 per package, it comes in five varieties – spaghetti, thin spaghetti, penne rigate, spirals and elbows, and it arrives in all Wegmans Food Markets by Labor Day weekend.
Americans bought nearly $1.6 billion worth of pasta in supermarkets during a recent 12-month period, placing it among the top 50 items in the grocery aisle by dollar sales, according to a recently published study. In recent years, more new products and an increasing share of sales come from the “healthy” pasta category – pastas with more whole grains or added nutrients such as calcium – rather than from traditional white pastas made with refined wheat flour, called semolina.
