  • Walmart debuted a selection of affordable apparel that allows parents to “Dress Your Student for Under $50 for an Entire Week.” Designed to help families battered by the recession stretch their back-to-school shopping dollars, the program includes an array of both store brand and national brand items, the Bentonville, Ark.-based company said.

  • Babies 'R' Us, Wayne, N.J., announced the launch of an exclusive line of fashion-forward baby products by designer Cynthia Rowley. Offered under the Hooray by Cynthia Rowley label, the collection includes apparel for children up to age four, as well as blankets, bibs and diaper bags. According to the company, the line will expand into bedding and room decor sometime next year.

  • To help consumers get two meals out of one, Pleasanton, Calif.-based Safeway is sharing a variety of recipes in the “Stretch Your Budget” section of its Web site. All of the recipes - for both main meals and leftovers - feature an array of store brand ingredients.

  • Weis Markets, Sunbury, Pa., added Wet Aged Steakhouse Angus Beef to its collection of Weis Quality Premium Meats. According to the company, the individually sealed steaks also can be purchased in perforated multi-packs that allow consumers to use only what they need, when they need it.

  • Montreal-based Metro promoted its award-winning Irresistibles brand sorbets on its Web site recently. According to the company, the product took the top prize in the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix.

  • Wegmans Food Markets, Rochester, N.Y., announced the results of its seventh annual “Eat Well, Live Well” challenge: 776 employees lost weight, 200 lowered their blood pressure, 219 lowered their cholesterol readings and 39 stopped smoking. Now in its seventh year, the eight-week challenge involved more than 11,500 - one of every three - Wegmans employees, the company said.

  • A new meal solutions page on the Hannaford Supermarkets Web site features several recipes made with the Scarborough, Maine-based chain’s own brand products. The recipes also list cost per serving and prep time.
