Kroger was among six major retailers watched by Chicago-based market research firm Market Track that posted more private label promotions this year than a year ago.
The research, done exclusively for PLBuyer’s eReport, showed Kroger’s private label promotions up 49.3 percent from a year ago. HEB raised its promotions 48.9 percent, with Food Lion up 35.8 percent.
Eight other retailers followed by Market Track showed declines, with Rite-Aid (33.1 percent) and Safeway (-30.1 percent) down the most. CVS was flat.
Market Track’s analysis reflects regional versioning and market specific differences in circulars. This is accomplished through an extensive collections process, including physically obtaining the ads from the various markets in which they are distributed. In instances where retailers send additional circulars to a limited number of markets, Market Track’s information reflects these nuances to give a view of what is happening nationally.
