Bi-Lo supermarkets are bringing in a new private label soda to shelves this spring, but a familiar name in the Southeast.
Chek soda, which originated at Winn-Dixie stores in 1965, will be available in 26 flavors, including strawberry, peach, grape and orange pineapple, as well as traditional flavors such as cola, diet cola, and root beer.
Bi-Lo merged with Winn-Dixie in 2012.
“Many of our customers in the Bi-Lo marketplace grew up drinking Chek soda,” Vice President of Marketing Mary Kellmanson said in a news release. “We think now is the perfect time to reintroduce them to this old favorite.”
Bi-Lo will conduct taste tests at local events in the community, and fans of the store’s Facebook page will have a chance to play a Chek Scratch and Win game, where they can enter for a chance to win Chek soda for a year, Bi-Lo gift cards, or a free 12-pack of Chek.
Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie have 686 grocery stores in their chains. Chek is rolling out in the 206 Bi-Lo grocery stores throughout the Southeast.
