Former MillerCoors marketing executive Rick Gomez recently was picked to head up Target’s owned brands and packaging teams, the retailer said.
Gomez will be the senior vice president of brand and category marketing, and will begin his new position April 15.
Target ranked eighth on the PLB Top 35 list last year with more than $6 billion in private label sales in 2011.
His responsibilities will include the retailer’s owned brands as well as marketing strategies for all merchandise categories and brand initiatives. That includes the company’s exclusive deals with artists and licensing, as well as creative collaborations, Target said in a news release announcing his hiring.
Gomez was the vice president of brand marketing at MillerCoors and has worked in leadership positions at PepsiCo and Quaker Oats.
“The Target brand is synonymous with world-class marketing,” Gomez said in the release. “Joining the organization offers me an incredible opportunity to bring my years of brand-building and consumer experience to Target’s rich history of marketing innovation and leadership.”
“Rick’s deep knowledge of brand marketing will accelerate our efforts to align marketing and business strategies,” Target Chief Marketing Officer Jeff Jones said in the release.
