Meijer co-CEO Hank Meijer said Wednesday that the retailer would invest about $160 million this year in 11 new and remodeling projects in Michigan, Illinois and Indiana. Six new supercenters are slated to open in 2013, two in each state, with five remodeling projects scheduled, four in Michigan and one in Illinois.
“We are pleased to continue to invest in the Midwest communities that have supported us for so long,” Meijer said in a news release.
Each new store will bring about 250 full- and part-time jobs, the retailer said. Meijer has opened 27 new stores since 2007 and has 199 overall.
