On Jan. 25, Publix promoted its "Buy Theirs Get Ours Free" deal on its Facebook page, a sale in which the shopper gets a free private label item when buying the comparable name brand.

"This is your challenge - if you choose to accept it. Buy the national brand and try ours for free," the retailer said in its post. The adjoining photo posted featured Kraft Parmesan cheese, Ronzoni Ziti, Ragu sauce, and Del Monte diced tomatoes, as well as their Publix brand counterparts.

The post was well received with 1,912 likes by Thursday. Publix answered comments explaining the promotion including this one from Betsy: "Heather, Maria, and Connie, here's how it works: These promotional items will be noted in your store's weekly ad. When you go to the register with the Publix brand version of these items, the cashier will input whether or not you purchased the other brand's version. If you have the other brand's version, the Publix brand item will be rung up as free. I hope this helps!"

Additionally, Publix announced its new Publix Fan Sub the same day, from its  “Building the Publix Fan Sub” contest.

"Here it is, fans - your Publix Fan Sub! Publix Ultimate on Italian 5 Grain with lettuce, tomato, banana peppers and mayonnaise. Will you order this next time?"
