More than half the retailers followed by Chicago-based market research firm Market Track reported decreases in private label promotions over last year, but the swings at the high and low end were large.
The report, done exclusively for PLBuyer’s eReport, showed eight of the 14 retailers with fewer promotions last week than the same time a year ago. Rite-Aid led the decliners, with 56.7 percent fewer promotions, followed by CVS (-39.8%) and Walmart (-33.4%).
On the updside, H-E-B registered 53.4 percent more private label promotions than a year ago, with Giant-Landover (+51.3%) and Walgreens (+45%) also significantly higher.
Market Track’s analysis reflects regional versioning and market specific differences in circulars. This is accomplished through an extensive collections process, including physically obtaining the ads from the various markets in which they are distributed. In instances where retailers send additional circulars to a limited number of markets, Market Track’s information reflects these nuances to give a view of what is happening nationally.
