Retailers followed by Market Track exclusive for PLBuyer’s eReport pulled back with private label promotions last week in comparison with the same week a year ago.
Ten of the 15 retailers followed by Market Track showed declines in promotions year-over-year, led by Camp Hill, Pa.-based Rite-Aid (-52.0%) and Cincinnati-based Kroger (-50.6%). Pleasanton, Calif.-based Safeway and Lakeland, Fla.-based Publix also showed big drops.
Deerfield, Ill.-based Walgreens put plenty of weight behind its promotions, showing a 137.3 percent rise in promotions year-over-year last week. Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion (+63.2%) and San Antonio, Texas-based HEB (+22.7%) also showed strong gains.
Market Track’s analysis reflects regional versioning and market specific differences in circulars. This is accomplished through an extensive collections process, including physically obtaining the ads from the various markets in which they are distributed. In instances where retailers send additional circulars to a limited number of markets, Market Track’s information reflects these nuances to give a view of what is happening nationally.
