This week seven out of 15 retailers tracked by Chicago-based research firm Market Track exclusively for PLBuyer’s eReport saw decreases in their private label promotions when compared withthe corresponding week last year.
Bentonville, Ark.-based Walmart (-68.8%) and Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion (-49.8%) witnessed significant declines in their private label promotions this year. Hoffman Estates, Ill.-based Kmart, part of Sears Holdings Corp., (-19.5%) and San Antonio, Texas-based H-E-B (-18.8%) were among the other retailers, experiencing drops in their private label promotions when compared with the same week the previous year.
Lakeland, Fla.-based Publix (+45.6%) experienced a noteworthy increase in its private label promotions. Out of the other retailers, Giant-Landover (+31.5%) and Camp Hill, Pa.-based Rite-Aid (+17.7%) witnessed noticeable increases in their private label promotions year over year.
Market Track’s analysis reflects regional versioning and market specific differences in circulars. This is accomplished through an extensive collections process, including physically obtaining the ads from the various markets in which they are distributed. In instances where retailers send additional circulars to a limited number of markets, Market Track’s information reflects these nuances to give a view of what is happening nationally.
