Walgreen CEO Greg Wasson told attendees at a National Association of Chain Drugs Stores conference Sunday that the industry should capitalize on pharmacy tours by public officials to put its best foot forward on issues throughout the drug store industry.
“They do not come to see a pharmacy of today,” said Wasson, the chairman of the board of the NACDS. “They come to see where community pharmacy is headed. They leave very enthusiastic about the role community pharmacy can play in helping solve our country’s healthcare crisis.”
Wasson spoke at the NACDS Pharmacy and Technology Conference in Denver. He said those in the industry needed to continue looking ahead to make gains.
“No one ever said this would be easy,” Wasson said. “Folks, our industry has its share of headwinds, but it’s also go some mighty tailwinds, too. Our future has never been brighter, and our opportunity has never been greater, to advance this great profession and the role we all know community pharmacy can play.”
Finally, Wasson looked ahead one more time – to 2013, and the NACDS’ debut in August of its Total Store Expo, a combination of the Pharmacy and Technology Conference, the Marketplace Conference, and the Supply Chain and Logistics Conference.
“You know I’ll certainly be there with my folks at Walgreens, from pharmacy to supply chain to health and wellness,” he said. “I hope your company will be represented, too.”
