Bentonville, Ark.-based Walmart announced this week that it would roll out its first ultra premium dry dog food brand in stores, Pure Balance.
The private label product will be available in more than 2,900 stores. It contains no soy, wheat or corn additives, the company said in a news release announcing the product release, along with no artificial colors, no preservatives, and no chicken by-products.
“Walmart customers, including me, consider our dogs family members,” said Jody Pinson, vice president of pets at Walmart, in the release. “So when it comes to their food, we want the very best for them. Our customers told us they wanted to be able to feed their dogs a dry food made with pure ingredients without having to make a special trip to the pet store. We listened, and are excited to offer Pure Balance, an ultra premium dog food at a price our customers can afford.”
The primary ingredient in the dog food is either real lamb meat or poultry, the company said, and is contains omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids for a healthy coat and skin. It said the product also supports vision health, heart health, and immunity.
