Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans Food Markets announced that it has launched its own line of gluten-free products that will appear in the Nature’s Marketplace section of the grocery store, as well as the regular aisles for pasta and baking.
Among the products are gluten-free spaghetti, fusilli, penne, and elbows. There also are mixes for gluten-free vanilla cake, chocolate cake, cookies, and double chocolate brownies.
The company said in a news release that it spent a year testing and tweaking the recipe formulas. Products arrived in stores this month, which is Celiac Awareness Month.
“We see more gluten-free products every year, and the quality keeps improving,” said Charlie Gardner, category merchant for Wegmans’ Nature’s Marketplace, in the release. “The gluten-free area has grown from a 12-foot section to several aisles in the Nature’s Marketplace department of the store. There are about 1,700 different (gluten-free) Wegmans brand items alone, from orange juice to ketchup.”
