Private Brand Advisors founder Terry Lee says retailers should understand that quick trip customers are here to stay, and meeting their needs with private label offerings should be a crucial part of their stores’ private label strategies.
Lee, a former private brand executive at Dollar General, Albertson’s, and Safeway, will be a keynote speaker at Private Label: the Next Generation hosted by PLBuyer in June in Chicago.
In a preview of his remarks set for the conference, Lee says dollar stores found success with quick trip customers in recent years that the entire industry can learn from. The full podcast of Lee’s interview with PLBuyer editor Chris Freeman can be heard at PL Buyer's Podcast Page.
“There are a lot of lessons to be learned from how successful dollar channel stores have been the past few years,” Lee says. “There are a lot of things that retailers can do. Retail brands can play even stronger now in the area of the quick trip.”
Lee adds that economic factors such as continuing high gas prices have made the quick trips a fact of life that retailers should be prepared to handle.
“The quick trip and convenience is critical and it’s here to stay,” he said. “I think it’s important that retailers understand that the vast majority of trips are quick trips, and so they need to be able to provide an assortment of offerings to consumers to meet their needs.”
The conference will be held at the Hilton Chicago from June 5-7, and registration is available at www.plbuyerconference.com. Hotel reservations at the Hilton Chicago are due by May 14.
