The Bi-Lo supermarket chain, Mauldin, S.C., recently broke ground on its new large-scale Super Bi-Lo format. The 48,500-square-foot store will include an expanded organic selection, a Wi-Fi cafe and a coffee shop.
Beginning in 2008, Martha Stewart’s name and reputation will adorn a line of fresh, refrigerated and frozen foods sold exclusively at Costco Wholesale Corp., Issaquah, Wash. Executives at both Martha Stewart Living and Costco have not yet chosen products for the new line, but items are expected to be called Kirkland Signature by Martha Stewart.
Taking hold of the market-fresh trend, Bashas’ Supermarkets recently opened its first Ike’s Farmers’ Market grocery store in Oro Valley, Ariz. The format is a new concept for the privately held, Chandler, Ariz.-based chain, and features organic breads, bulk food items, organic wines and health-oriented products such as supplements and natural body care items.
On the supplier side:
Associated Hygienic Products LLC, Duluth, Ga., announces the opening of a new manufacturing facility in Delaware, Ohio. The facility is now producing a wide range of disposable infant care products, including baby diapers and training pants using high-speed technology. The company’s transition from the Marion, Ohio, facility is nearly complete.
