Stop & Shop's Expanded Format to Highlight PL

Quincy, Mass.-based retailer Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. LLC, a subsidiary of Ahold USA, announced yesterday the unveiling of its new expanded store format in Chelmsford, Mass. that will include more than 1,200 private label items, along with expanded departments throughout the store.
 
“The expanded format will emphasize our private label products. We plan to carry over 4,000 private label brands in that store alone,” Suzi Robinson, manager of public and community relations tells PL Buyer’s eReport. “We also plan on having a whole section dedicated to our Nature’s Promise brand in the store that will carry over 650 items.”
 
“The new Stop & Shop store concept will help showcase the company’s private label ranges with expanded aisles that allow for more shelf-facings, which in turn make it possible for the retailer to stock the same number of name brand products while increasing its own brand offering,” explains Katie Mathis, retail analyst at the London-based retail consultant firm Planet Retail.
