Edible Categories Are the Best Selling Private Label Offerings, Says Nielsen

Edible categories represented eight of the top 10 biggest-selling private label offerings during the 52-weeks ending Oct.1, 2011, says a report released in the second half og 2011 by New York-based research firm Nielsen.
Blogger Chris Durham at mypbrand.com made copies of the reports available online on Feb. 6.

 

Milk sales accounted for almost twice the dollar volume as the next largest private label category, bread and baked goods.

 

Private label edible products like milk, eggs, sugar and frozen meat all performed well in their categories with dollar shares at or greater than 50 percent.

 

The two non-edible categories to make the top 10 list were paper products, which brought in $3 billion in sales and medications/remedies with $2.1 billion in sales.
