Expect to see more retailers moving towards the eco-friendly packaging trend when it comes to their private label, Cris Genovese, chief marketing officer for based Ecologic Brands, a California-based designer and manufacturer of molded fiber bottles made from recycled cardboard boxes and old newspapers, told PLBuyer during the PLMA show Tuesday in Rosemont.

“It depends on the strategy of the retailer and whether they’re looking to innovate and  offer similar products to the branded solutions moving in that direction,” she says. “But there are also some retailers that are pretty progressive and pushing the envelope and that want to be the first to market in their categories for this type of solution.”

Ecologic Brands rolled out its eco.bottle line of stock molded fiber bottles at Pack Expo in Las Vegas in September. The line features 32 oz., 50 oz. and 64 oz. size bottles that can house liquids or dry food-grade products. The company plans to launch a wipe solution, trigger spray and pumps in different shapes and sizes in the first half of 2012.
