New private label line helps kids make better food choices.
The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. (A&P)
Montvale, N.J., unveiled a new private label program targeted at children, tapping into what’s been called one of the hottest food industry trends for 2009.
One of 10 “Own Brands” offered by A&P, America’s Choice Kids was developed in conjunction with registered dieticians and includes items having ingredients and a nutritional profile that help promote growth and development, the company said. Based on the belief that “kids can make better food choices when educated appropriately on food nutritionals,” the line includes whole wheat bagels, fruit strips, French toast sticks, instant oatmeal, fruit cups, fruit spread and soy butter, with graham crackers, toasted oat cereal and raisins “coming soon,” according to a special America’s Choice Kids Web site (www.achealthykids.com). The Web site also includes games and activities, nutritional information and recipes, product information and a page for parents and teachers.
Also promoted in this month’s A&P Easy Solutions consumer magazine, America’s Choice Kids is available in A&P, Pathmark, SuperFresh, Walbaum's and Food Basics stores.
