Egg recall confusion prompts Roundy's to post signs

Consumer confusion over which brands are involved in what has become one of the nation's largest egg recalls in recent history prompted a major grocery chain to post signs in its stores, saying its eggs are not affected.

Milwaukee-based Roundy’s Supermarkets Inc. - which operates 94 Pick ‘n Save stores, 26 Copps stores and two Metro Markets in Wisconsin - has taken the unusual step of telling customers it doesn't purchase eggs from Iowa.

The grocery chain faced some confusion over a store brand with a name similar to a recalled brand. Roundy's Farm Fresh eggs are from Lake Mills and are not the Farm Fresh brand tied to the Iowa recall, Roundy’s spokeswoman Vivian King said Friday.

Typically, Roundy’s posts signs in stores only when they've pulled a recalled product, King said. “Because this involves eggs, which almost everybody eats, there were lots more questions, and we felt we should put up signs,” she said.
