Safeway Announces Finalists in Lucerne Art Contest

Safeway Inc., Pleasanton, Calif., and its Lucerne brand of dairy products announced the finalists in its Lucerne The Art of Dairy “Taste of Moo-sic” art contest. The finalists for this fifth annual contest — which promotes artistic creativity, academic excellence and healthy lifestyles in classrooms across the country — are competing for a $30,000 Grand Prize to be awarded in May.

High school students in grades 9 through 12 were eligible to enter the contest by submitting designs using an outline of a cow as the canvas, Safeway said. This year marks the second time the entrants were asked to translate the art of music into visual art.

The 30 finalists will transfer their designs to life-sized fiberglass cow sculptures in the final phase of competition. Safeway said it will award cash prizes to the Grand Prize and First Prize winners, as well as to their teachers and schools. Three Honorable Achievement winners and their teachers also will receive cash prizes, while 25 finalists will receive U.S. Savings Bonds.
