New Duane Reade Location Features Expanded Fresh Food, Grocery Offerings
March 5, 2010
New York-based drugstore chain Duane Reade announced the opening of its newest store in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, which features a greatly expanded fresh food and grocery offering.
The retailer said the expanded food section comprises approximately 40 percent of the 15,000-square-foot two-level store and includes items such as fresh sandwiches, single-serve entrees, baked goods and freshly packed salads and vegetables. In addition to fresh food, the store will carry more than 500 SKUs of frozen convenience items such as boneless skinless chicken breasts, hamburger patties, vegetables and appetizers. Other food offerings include Duane Reade’s DR Delish line of foods and beverages, as well as an expanded array of organic grocery items.
According to Duane Reade, the addition of fresh food and groceries, which eventually will be rolled out to other select locations, represents the latest phase in the retailer’s transformation, which includes dramatic new store designs, an improved pharmacy and the addition of many prestige beauty brands.
In addition to the fresh food and groceries, the store features the fourth Look Boutique location — Duane Reade’s store-within-a-store concept that showcases “an exciting array of beauty, skincare and fragrance brands, including many prestige brands and other products exclusive to the overall offering,” the retailer said. The store also will include a Ramy Brow Bar where customers can get their eyebrows shaped, and a walk-in medical clinic.
